    Stoneface--At last!

Finally GA has done Stoneface, probably the most pivotal book in the series since Pilgrimage to Hell

It was the 1st "real" SF Deathlands book and Mark Ellis really blew DL out of the monotonous formula it had fallen into.

I'd stopped reading DL a couple of years before because the books were so predictable but Stoneface got me back into reading it...the 3 year period following Stoneface was the most exciting and innovative in the whole series with more great books by Mark, Mel Odom, Terry Collins, Alan Philipson.

    A shame that period didn't last.Sad

But at least we got Outlanders.

I have bittersweet memories of Stoneface. It was the book that set up the roots for the Outlander's series. I wrote to Lawrence James (I think that was his name, how awfull I can't remember!) and He sent me the cover of the first two Outlander books before they came out. This also is the last book he wrote before he died. Personally I think this whole group of Deathlands titles starting at Bloodlines is the highlight of the Deathlands series.

How can I be delirious with all this jawing going on?--Preacher

    You're definately confused somewhere.

Stoneface was written by Mark Ellis, his first DL that came out in 1996. Eclipse at noon was Laurence James last DL. He quit writing DL in 1995 and he passed away in Feb. 2000.

Laurence had nothing at all to with Outlanders...the series was completely created by Mark.

For that matter Stoneface wasn't anything like the kind of DL books Laurence had been writing. Waaaaaaaaaay too Sci-Fi.

Are you sure its Laurence James you're thinking of? Doesn't seem likely he would have covers of the first two OL novels since they came out in 97 and he had quit GE in 95...not to mention he had nothing to do with OL.
