    What's up with Team Phoenix?

Ok , I know that the ole team was kinda plugged in an out by different ghost writers , but the last 'write-off' and portrayal , I mean , come-onn...did they have to be written in so , well , like has-beens? I thought leaving them in space fighting alongside aliens was a good displacement in their last write in encounter ( still not sure about that whole story , though) . They came across as being very anti-cereberus and like a group of drunken slops . What gives?

Re: What's up with Team Phoenix?

    It's very simple, actually.

Victor Milan rehashed Team Phoenix from his long dead Guardian's series, and brought it into Mark Ellis' Outlanders.

Maybe it was an attempt from Mr. Milan to inspire Gold Eagle to give these wannabes from the 80's a series of their own, maybe it was a slap in Mark's face, trying to one-up him, who knows. It could have been anything.

Fact of the matter is that they shouldn't have been brought in. The very first book that Mr. Milan wrote for Outlanders had this new 'team' center stage, with the regular characters taking a step back for them.

When you're a guest writer, and in this case it was a guest writer, you don't come in and start messing around with the creators series, to suit it to your personal taste. That was very crass and down right disrespectful.

It angered a lot of the fans, and the creator of the series felt that they had no place in his personal sandbox, so he got rid of them, pure and simple. Being Mark created the series and wrote at this point in time over 44 of the books in it, the vast lion's share, he had every right to do so.

After all, you don't come into someone's house, walk around, eat their food, dirty their rooms and start changing things around without first asking now, do you?

That's why they were taken out.

Right , but weren't they 'written' back out when they volunteered to stay in space and help aliens fight?  Then , in Baron (sp?)boceley's return as 'super-lizard' , they are written out again as if they never were left behind fighting in space somewhere.....wrote out 2X's ...and written out with a different personna the second time , above the call of  continuity being interupted .

I guess they were kind of 'permantly' removed from the series with malice , huh? Would be kinda funny if they are brought back in and randomly removed in each future episode , although it would ruin the series , it would be a funny kinda inside joke .

I didn't really like them being plugged in , but got to like their 'team' spirit , so , I was happy they were  'released' in a kinda fitting way( to fight on , in space)  and then , now , here they showed up again and got tossed out again  just as quick . Kinda didn't track that very well , but can understand about it .

Thanks for your input Chris , you see how I saw it too , but I hope they don't write them back in and take them right back out again in the same chapter just to kick a dead horse , would be funny , but would ruin the story line .

Most long-time OL fans hated TP (or Team Phoney as they were knownBig Smile) and thought their kiss-off in Dark Goddess was hilalarious...know I did! They died as they lived...shooting off their mouths and their guns!

But according to OL series creator, Main writer and main James Axler Mark Ellis, none of the Milan fill-in books actually happened in the "official' OL continuity or timeline--except for part of Awakening when TP first showed up. The other books with them never happened, they were like the old "imaginary stories" from DC comics where Lex Luthor married Lois Lane.

Even the fill-in books by Milan that didn't have TP in them were so riddled with continuity and characterization errors and butt-pulled plot elements that they aren't considered 'official" Outlanders adventures.

As I see it those books with Team phoenix and for that matter the barrons evolving should of been made non-cannon. They really ruined the story that Mark Ellis had going and now the whole story has changed and not neccisarrily for the better.

Mark keep up the good work
