    What Do You Think?

I'm considering ordering the initial release in the Serrano Legacy series, HUNTING PARTY, because I enjoy space adventure type science fiction.  I'm mostly rooted in 50's-60's style "space opera", and haven't found much to spark my interest in science fiction during the 80's and beyond, and I tend to get lost or bored quickly with most science fiction I've tried to read recently.  However, I'm willing to give this a try, but thought I'd see if anyone else has given HUNTING party a listen, and any comments would be appreciated.  I understand it's part 1 of the 1st book, so there may be a cliff hanger awaiting part 2.  Thanks for any input.

    Re: What Do You Think?

You know, I couldn't walk away once I started listening to this and I found it enjoyable, but I don't know why. Objectively not much happens, to offer some spoilers you got a horse race and a rich brat getting what's coming to him, and that's it. But it was oddly magnetic. I kind of shake my head. I honestly don't know if I would recommend this one or not. Coleen Delany's performance is stellar and Nanette Savard is never better than when she is doing dowager Cecelia. I know they are setting the scene for bigger things. The characters are interesting and there is a couple of mysteries brewing in the backround. But I don't know--mixed feelings. I do like it better than Rogue Angel.

Thanks for your honest input.  There are two comments in the catalog section, both positive, but I'm still uncertain.  It sounds like you go a long time for not much to happen...but I'm just old fashioned.  These days, no science fiction book seems to get written unless it's planned from the start as part of a trilogy or something longer, which may mean not much happens in the first two books then everything comes to a quick end in the third, with most things still unanswered in case the sales are good enough for a fourth book.

     Guess I'm just getting old....

I agree, everything has to be an epic. What ever happened to the good old go out and blow something up! Where's Captain Kirk when you need him--ha. ha. No seriously, I did like this but like I said I'm not sure why. Kind of like you are watching Dr. Phil and really want to turn the channel but you can't because he has such a bad suit and look there's a nutcase...ha. ha. LOL. (this is better than Dr. Phl). And I should tell you that I am still in a bit of a sulk about Stony Man being made twice over the next six months. sigh.

    Re: What Do You Think?

The thing that has to be understood about, "Hunting Party" is that it is a 300 to 500 page book. It is completely different from a 200 page book. Also this book has a very low body count. Moon’s characters are not paid by the head. But I have always loved Elizabeth Moon writing since collage. I was not disappointed with " Hunting Party" at all. If you have to have lots of body bags, this is not for you. But, if you like a good story " Hunting Party" is a good book.

    Best Regards,

    Re: What Do You Think?

I came down on the side of liking it, I like the characters and the writing is ok, it just seems to take a long, long time to get past fixing up the shift and the horse hunting party. I am looking forward to part 2

    Re: What Do You Think?

I just finished listening to Hunting Party Parts 1 and 2.  I was hesitant in purchasing the book as I am not familiar with the author Elizabeth Moon.  I am not sorry I purchased it now.  I thoroughly enjoyed the book as a whole and I definitly want to hear more.  I see that in the artwork section, there is artwork for Serrano Legacy: Sporting Chance which is another Heris Serrano novel.  Is there a release date for this book, and will it be in multiple parts like Hunting Party?

Sporting Chance and Winning Colors will also be 2 parts each. Sporting Chance (Part 1 of 2) will be available June 2008 in stores.

I'll just wait until both parts are available then I'll download and listen to the whole thing at once.

    Re: What Do You Think?

Have to admit I goofed up I purchased number 2 before 1 and was lost. My opinion was ehhhhhh ok its ok but not some of the best that GA has done. I purchased 1 and then evrything in 2 fell into place and have decided that My initial thoughts were wrong. Its much better when listened to in order. I just purchaseed the new story cant wait to get it. Fair warning though Its nothing like Deathstalker.

    Re: What Do You Think?

So far enjoyable. Hmmmmm think I still prefer Deathstalker but as its finishing it run I'm glad to see a new sci-fi title thats actually pretty good. Would love to see another sci-fi title or two mixed in to the line up too.
