    The New Destroyer

Graphic Audio had mentioned acquiring the rights for The New Destroyer: Guardian Angel a few months ago.  When I downloaded the winter catelog, there was no mention of it.

Is it still on?  Will we be hearing any news soon?

It's a possibility for the spring catalog, because we couldn't aquire the rights in time for this year.

It's too bad you couldn't get the rights sooner but hopefully it will work out for spring.  The New Destroyer books are fantastic.

I know it's too early for the Spring catalog to be out, but is there any further news about aquiring the rights?

It would be great if Graphic Audio's versions could come out not too longer after the books come out, especially as Tor doesn't stock the books in truck stops.  I'm sure a lot of truck drivers would appreciate seeing the Graphic Audio versions.

We tried aquiring the rights to the newer books, but there were legal issues with the film contracts in Hollywood. It has to do with dramatized performances. Since our productions are very similar to film, they will never be produce in GraphicAudio. We can look forward to a new Destroyer movie though and we'll have alot more Destroyer novels from Gold Eagle over the next few years.

That is some terrible news. It also makes no sense. How could audio dramatized performances hurt the movie industry? If anything you would think dramatized versions would build an even bigger demand for movies. Then again, Hollywood has never been known to make sense.

I suppose it probably would come down to money (doesn't it always?). They are probably thinking "Block Buster". I hope it does better than the last Destroyer movie. I liked it, but they could do way more fun things now than they could then.

Too bad audio rights are not available.  I didn't even know they were considering a movie version.  Just another book series for Hollywood to muck with (I have little faith in any Hollywood movie based on a book series - they generally use only the name for recognition value and what's on screen has precious little to do with the original).

That is a real disappointment.  I agree with Sunnyjoe.  I think a Graphic Audio production could only help the movie by expanding interest in the books and series in general and wouldn't take anything away from the movie.  A dramatic audio performance isn't close enough to a movie performance, in my opinion, to do that.  And probably none of the New Destroyers will serve as the basis for the movie's script anyway.

And it's even more of a disappointment considering how -- just because someone has bought the rights to a product -- that doesn't guarantee the movie will ever be made.  And in the meantime, we're out some great audio perfomances of some great books!
